It is said by the San Francisco Chronicle has reported that according to two officials who have knowledge of former Sen. George Mitchell's probe on performance-enhancing drugs in Baseball, the two officials say that the report will be released before the holidays.
This means that if teams deal for players during the winter meetings, they could find out that the player they just signed could get fined, or suspended by Major League Baseball for a number of games in 2008. So, this is bad news for both teams, and a few players. The report is said to reveal current, and former Major League Baseball players who used performance-enhancing drugs, which includes anabolic steroids, and/or human-growth hormones. The SF Chronicle reported yesterday that Rob Manfred, Baseball's lead lawyer, advised teams to avoid commenting on Mitchell's findings, and/or the names that are expected to be revealed. So, I do not know who will be revealed in this report until it comes out in the next few weeks.
Here is what the LA Angels' owner Arte Moreno said of the report according to the LA Times:
"The names of players will come out that people will be mad about. Some of my information is secondhand, but I know there's going to be names."
This report is going to have a HUGE impact on this coming Baseball season, and it will also have a big impact on the players lives, and careers. In my opinion, this may be the highlight of the offseason, even if big names are dealt to new teams, all of that will be overlooked by the Mitchell Report. I am hoping that there aren't any current HOFers revealed in this report.
